A Day of Highs and Challenges at Donington Park for the GBS Zero Race Team….

It was a true mixed bag for the GBS Zero race team at Donington Park this weekend, as we took on the latest round of the CSCC Magnificent Sevens Series. Despite the challenges, the team delivered an incredible performance and came away with two trophies— a testament to determination, teamwork, and the capability of the Zero race car.

The day started with drama in qualifying when a failure of the lower rear rose joints forced the car into the paddock for urgent repairs. In a race against time, the team worked flat out and managed to get the car back together with just seconds to spare before heading out for Race 1.

Behind the wheel, Will Orton delivered an outstanding drive. Starting from the back, he pushed hard through the field, gaining an incredible eight places to secure 1st in class — an impressive result under pressure and in wet conditions. He also set the 5th fastest lap of the race with a time of 1:34.202, highlighting the true pace of the car.

Joining Will on track were fellow Zero drivers Chris McQueen and Ben Low. Unfortunately, it wasn’t their day. Chris was unable to make qualifying due to a wheel bearing issue, while Ben, who had worked hard to even make the event following earlier engine troubles, was ultimately forced to retire during qualifying when the issue returned.

Race 2 brought more action — and more adversity. After another strong showing, Will was unfortunately caught up in a incident on the track, sustaining damage to the front end and nose cone which brought his race to an early end. Remarkably, despite not finishing, he still secured another class win, alongside setting the 4th fastest lap with a time of 1:42.480.

It was a day full of ups and downs — but ultimately, the highs outweighed the challenges. The team’s efforts not only secured two trophies but also proved the strength and resilience of the car in real-world conditions, including validating the effectiveness of our crash structure.

A huge thank you goes to our GBS team, our supporters, partners, and of course Will for delivering such an incredible performance in demanding conditions. We’d also like to thank the organisers of the CSCC Magnificent Sevens Series and all the marshals for ensuring a safe and well-run event.

Finally, thank you to everyone who came along to support and watch — it was an amazing day, and we’re already looking forward to the next one.

A Busy Start to the Year in the GBS Workshop....

It’s been an incredibly busy start to the year here at GBS, and the months ahead are shaping up to be even busier. With a growing number of customers looking to get their cars road-ready, demand for our professional IVA preparation and testing service is continuing to rise.

Our workshop team is dedicated to helping customers successfully navigate the IVA process, ensuring every vehicle meets the required standards while taking the stress out of the final stages of the build and all the required paperwork.

One of the latest standout projects is this stunning Ultimate GBS Zero build, which is currently receiving a full Ultra Clear Pro PPF (paint protection film) treatment at Custom Creations Detailing who are local to GBS. This high-quality protection will keep the car looking immaculate, safeguarding the finish and enhancing its overall presentation.

Once the detailing process is complete, the car will be arriving with us at GBS for final preparation ahead of its IVA test. Our team will carry out a comprehensive inspection and fine-tuning process, ensuring everything is perfectly in place for a successful IVA test.

Each build that comes through our workshop represents a significant milestone for our customers, and it’s always rewarding to play a part in bringing these cars to life. From workshop preparation to IVA presentation, we’re committed to delivering a smooth and professional service every step of the way.

We’re excited to share more updates on this build once it arrives, along with several other impressive projects currently in progress.

As more cars near completion, we look forward to seeing even more Zeros out on the road and making their mark on track later this year.

If you’re approaching the final stages of your build and need support with IVA preparation, now is the perfect time to get booked in. To find out more about our workshop services or to reserve your slot, please get in touch with the team today.

Lotus 102 Formula One Car – A Legendary Restoration Milestone at GBS....

This stunning Lotus 102 Formula One racing car has been an exciting and challenging long-term project in the GBS workshop, and many of you will have spotted it during visits or at our events. As an iconic piece of motorsport history, every stage of the restoration has been carried out with meticulous care, engineering expertise and passion.

We’re thrilled to share a major milestone in the journey so far:
Following further inspection and setup work, we started the engine again and then took the car to Northampton Motorsport for Rolling Road testing, where more progress was made.
The sound? Electrifying. “Loud” doesn’t even begin to describe the raw, powerful roar of this legendary machine coming back to life. Moments like this are exactly why we love what we do.

The Lotus 102 will remain with us as we continue fine-tuning and preparing it for an exciting schedule of events planned for the future. This remarkable car has a bright road ahead, and we can’t wait to see it back on the track where it belongs.

Stay tuned for more updates and behind-the-scenes insights as we continue this incredible restoration journey. Click here to visit our GBS YouTube channel to watch a video of Richard talking through the car and to hear that engine!

From Cars & Coffee to Goodwood – Showcasing the New Zero EV at the Greenpower International Finals 2025.....

Straight after our GBS Cars & Coffee event on Saturday, some of the GBS team headed down to Goodwood Motor Circuit, where we were invited to showcase our brand-new Zero EV at the Greenpower International Finals 2025 (12th October). The event was hosted at Goodwood with the support of the Duke of Richmond and Gordon, and it was an honour to be involved.

The Greenpower Education Trust is a UK-based charity that inspires young people to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) through motorsport. Students design, build and race their own electric cars in a national and international series, developing real-world engineering, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

We had a fantastic day supporting the event and were incredibly impressed by the talent, skills and engineering on display from all the teams competing. The passion and innovation shown by the students is exactly what the future of engineering looks like.

We were especially proud to see St George’s Academy from Sleaford achieve 3rd place!
We have supported St George’s Academy for some time, and their students have visited the GBS factory on several occasions to see what we do and to gain engineering tips—so it was brilliant to see their hard work recognised on track.

Our new Zero EV demo car was on display for the very first time, and it attracted a huge amount of interest throughout the day. We’re excited to share more updates soon as development continues.

The GBS Zero range is an ideal platform for student build projects, offering a hands-on way to learn key principles in motorsport, vehicle dynamics, fabrication, engineering, factory tour opportunities and more.

We are proud to support the next generation, we were delighted to have been invited to the Greenpower International Finals and are proud to support such an inspiring initiative. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Greenpower and helping develop the next generation of engineers. See more here about our Educational builds and what we can offer here. More updates on the Zero EV coming soon – watch this space!

Click here to visit our GBS YouTube Chanel and watch a video of the day.

What a turnout at our Autumn GBS Cars & Coffee event....

Saturday’s (11th October) Cars & Coffee was one of our busiest yet, with the car park overflowing with every kind of car. It’s always a pleasure to host these events here at GBS, and it was fantastic to welcome so many new faces and vehicles – not just Seven-style cars, but a great mix from across the automotive world.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a brilliant day. The cakes went down a treat, and we’re proud to have raised money for our three chosen charities Cancer Research, Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance and Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes.

If you missed this one, don’t worry – the date for our GBS Christmas Cars & Coffee will be announced very soon and more photos and videos from the day on our social media pages, so be sure to check them out and see the video link below. Don’t forget its our GBS Drive Out is happening on Saturday 25th October and there is still time to register and join us, all cars are welcome!

Thanks again for the continued support — we’re already looking forward to seeing you at the next event, from all the GBS Team.

Proof you don't need a garage to build a Zero kit.....

One of the things we love most about the Zero is how accessible it is to build. You don’t need a huge workshop or a professional setup—just enthusiasm, determination, and a little creativity.
One of our customers had always dreamed of building their own Zero but thought it wasn’t possible without a garage. Their solution? They set up their build in a caravan awning—and it worked brilliantly!
This particular project is even more special, as it’s a father-and-son Mazda Zero build. It’s been fantastic to watch their progress, proving that building a Zero isn’t just about the car—it’s also about the experience, the memories made, and the sense of achievement along the way.

The build was made easier with our Zero Build Trolley, which allows the chassis to be easily wheeled around as the project develops. This handy option makes building in smaller spaces or unusual locations much simpler.

The car is now nearing completion and is already booked into our workshop for the IVA service that we provide. It’s on track to be on the road in 2026, ready to be enjoyed for years to come.

Educational Zero Builds.....Inspiring the Next Generation of Car Builders

Yesterday we delivered a GBS Zero kit to North Lindsey College in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. Where students will soon begin their very own Zero build journey. For many of them, this will be the first time working hands-on with a sports car project of this scale, and we look forward to following their progress.

We’re passionate about supporting education and giving students the opportunity to experience engineering in a real, practical way. Our educational kit builds are designed to inspire, teach valuable skills, and provide insight into the world of automotive design and manufacturing.

We’re proud to work closely with schools, colleges, and universities across the UK and beyond, offering not only our Zero kit builds but also dedicated student factory tours where groups can explore our workshop, see our production in action, and learn more about the British sports car industry.

The future of the automotive world lies in the hands of the next generation, and we’re delighted to play our part in helping shape it. Find out more about our educational builds and student tours here or contact us now to discuss more.
