Educational Zero Builds.....Inspiring the Next Generation of Car Builders

Yesterday we delivered a GBS Zero kit to North Lindsey College in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. Where students will soon begin their very own Zero build journey. For many of them, this will be the first time working hands-on with a sports car project of this scale, and we look forward to following their progress.

We’re passionate about supporting education and giving students the opportunity to experience engineering in a real, practical way. Our educational kit builds are designed to inspire, teach valuable skills, and provide insight into the world of automotive design and manufacturing.

We’re proud to work closely with schools, colleges, and universities across the UK and beyond, offering not only our Zero kit builds but also dedicated student factory tours where groups can explore our workshop, see our production in action, and learn more about the British sports car industry.

The future of the automotive world lies in the hands of the next generation, and we’re delighted to play our part in helping shape it. Find out more about our educational builds and student tours here or contact us now to discuss more.

GBS Zero Race Car – Donington Park Test & Brands Hatch Race Weekend….

A few weeks ago, we spent a fantastic evening at Donington Park with driver Abi Whitt, as she put our GBS Zero race car through its paces in preparation for the Gold Arts Magnificent Sevens at Brands Hatch where she will be driving our Zero race car.

The Donington test session was invaluable — allowing Abi to fine-tune the setup, test performance, and build confidence ahead of race day. Abi showed impressive pace and handled the Zero brilliantly, giving us every reason to be excited for the weekend at Brands Hatch.

Unfortunately, the GBS team couldn’t be at the track to support Abi in person, as the event clashed with our own GBS Drive Out. However, we were delighted to follow her progress closely and celebrate her results afterwards.

The Weekend Recap:

  • Day 1 – Qualifying: On Saturday evening at 5pm, Abi qualified 8th out of 20 cars. The GBS Zero was the only Zero on the grid, racing alongside a strong field of Caterhams.

  • Day 2 – Race 1 (12:25): In tricky conditions, the treaded tyre runners had the advantage at the start. Abi seized her chance and gained two places before an early safety car was deployed after one of the slick runners was caught out on cold wet tyres.

  • Race 2 (17:30): Abi once again impressed, climbing as high as 6th overall. Sadly, a late fuel issue forced her into retirement before the chequered flag — but not before showing the pace and competitiveness of the Zero.

Abi thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and was very impressed with the car’s performance and handling. With just a few tweaks to seat positioning and setup, we’re confident the Zero will be even stronger at the next outing.

The car is now back with us and already being prepared for its next test night and upcoming Gold Arts Magnificent Sevens race. We’re proud of Abi’s efforts and look forward to seeing her back out on track very soon.

GBS Drive Out to Futura Sports Cars Open Day....

We had a fantastic day for our August GBS Drive Out, this time heading over to Futura Sports Cars for their Open Day. It was a brilliant opportunity to enjoy plenty of driving, great company, and to celebrate our new partnership with Futura Sports Cars as our Northern Dealer Specialist.

The day began with an early start from GBS, where a group of Zeros and other sports cars gathered before making the drive up to Yorkshire through some lovely roads. One of the highlights of the journey was seeing the convoy of cars driving right through the centre of York — a sight that certainly turned a few heads!

On arrival at Futura Sports Cars, it was fantastic to see their new setup, meet the team, and share in the excitement of their Open Day. Afterwards, we continued the day with lunch and drinks at the near by Aldwark Manor, where everyone could catch up and enjoy the sunshine before heading home their separate ways.

The weather was perfect throughout the day, and thankfully we managed to avoid the rain, making it an even more enjoyable drive. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us — it was a great turnout, and events like this wouldn’t be the same without you. We’ll be announcing details of the next GBS Drive Out very soon, and we hope to see you there for another fun day with the sports cars. More photographs and videos will can be seen on our social media later this week.

What a Fantastic Finale – GBS Friday Night at the Factory....

What a Fantastic Finale – GBS Friday Night at the Factory….
Wow – what a fantastic evening to round off our final GBS Friday Night at the Factory of the year last Friday (08/08/25)! We were thrilled to see such a brilliant turnout, with the car park overflowing with some truly stunning cars from our customers, friends, and fellow enthusiasts.

The sun was shining, the atmosphere was buzzing, and the smell of freshly baked pizza filled the air thanks to the amazing team at Sherwood Fired Pizzas, who once again delivered mouth-watering wood-fired pizzas that were enjoyed by everyone. The drinks were chilled, the cakes went down a treat, and conversations flowed well into the evening.

Events like this really showcase the fantastic community we’re proud to be a part of – a place where everyone shares their passion for cars, good food, and great company.

Thank you to everyone who joined us throughout the season, making these Friday nights such a highlight in our calendar. This Zero is a great example of what can be achieved with our Ultimate Zero Self Build Kit, which continues to be a popular choice for both road and track use. The customer completed this as a home build and has done an excellent job — and now gets to enjoy the rewards of building their very own sports car.

At GBS, we support customers around the world, if you're in Europe or beyond and thinking about building your own Zero, we'd love to hear from you. GBS - Track Day What a Fantastic (and Hot) Day at Blyton Park with the Zeros!....

Last Saturday (12th July) saw another brilliant day on track as we returned to Blyton Park for another GBS Track Day of the year. The sun was shining, the track was hot, and the Zeros were flying!

Our new Zero Race Car and Mazda-powered demonstrator spent the day doing what they were built for – delivering pure driving excitement lap after lap. It was great to be joined by a number of Zero owners and customers who also took to the track or enjoyed passenger laps with the GBS team. Whether in the driver’s seat or the passenger seat, there were smiles all round.

The Yokohama AO52 tyres once again delivered exceptional grip in the high temperatures, and we had no trouble lapping and gapping many of the other vehicles sharing the circuit. It really shows how capable the Zero is when properly set up and driven to its potential.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along – whether on track, spectating, or just stopping by to chat. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

We’re already exploring options to squeeze in a few more GBS Track Days later in the year, so stay tuned to our Events Page and social channels for updates.

If you're looking for a car that offers unbeatable performance on both road and track, the GBS Zero could be the perfect choice for you. Click here to explore more about the Zero, or contact us to discuss the self-build or factory-built options.

Welcoming our GBS Zero owner & family from California, USA to GBS.....

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming GBS Zero owner Aaron and his family to the GBS factory, visiting us all the way from sunny California, USA. It was fantastic to meet them in person after many years /months of working together remotely. During their visit, they toured the GBS factory, met the full team behind the build of their Zero, and enjoyed a test drive in our latest GBS demonstrator.

Aaron’s high-spec Zero is now very near completion and will soon be ready to begin its journey on the roads of the USA. Some of you may have already seen Aaron’s Zero on our stand last year when Richard, Matt and Paul were at the Miata Reunion at Sonoma Raceway in California — it certainly gathered a lot of attention and excitement.

We’re proud that the GBS Zero is now enjoyed by enthusiasts across the globe, including a growing number of passionate customers in the United States. To support this, we have a dedicated GBS USA representative who is on hand to assist with enquiries, provide local knowledge, and help guide you through the self-build or turnkey process. Whether you're in California, New York, Texas, or anywhere in between, we can help make your Zero dream a reality.

If you're based in the USA and are interested in the GBS Zero, whether it's our Mazda-based kit, a custom configuration, or a factory-built option, then get in touch. We’d be happy to connect you with our USA representative or arrange a video call with our team here at the factory to explore the options we offer.

We look forward to seeing Aaron’s Zero on the road soon and welcoming more customers from the USA in the future to GBS.

Proud moment celebrating success and welcoming new talent at GBS....

Exciting News from GBS!
We’re thrilled to celebrate the achievements of our apprentice Lauren, who recently won the "Extra Mile Nominee" award for her Fabrication & Welding Apprenticeship at West Notts College! Lauren joined us in 2022 and has shown fantastic commitment to her Level 3 Fabricator course — attending college one day a week and gaining hands-on experience with us here at GBS. She has just 6 months left in her apprenticeship, after which she’ll continue as part of the GBS Team, further developing her engineering skills.

We are all so proud of Lauren and her achievement and are excited for her future. She has become a valuable part of our team and a great role model for others pursuing careers in motorsport and engineering.

We’re also pleased to announce that Dexter will be joining us this September as our newest apprentice! Dexter recently completed a T-Level in Engineering Manufacturing at Lincoln UTC, during which he also gained work experience at GBS. He will now be continuing his studies at the University of Sheffield AMRC, working towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering — and joining us on-site to continue gaining practical skills in real-world of engineering and manufacturing.

Apprenticeships are a key part of the future and what we do at GBS, and we're proud to help develop the next generation of engineers and motorsport talent. With around 80% of the GBS Zero designed and manufactured in-house — including our ATR Suspension, Throttle Bodies, and more — there's no better place to learn and grow within the automotive and motorsport world.

Many of you will have already met Lauren and Dexter at our Cars & Coffee and Friday Night at the Factory events, and you’ll be able to catch up with them again soon at our GBS Track Day (12th July) and our next GBS Friday Night at the Factory event (18th July).

Please join us in congratulating Lauren and welcoming Dexter to the GBS team!

Try our Standard and GT Zero Chassis before you buy....

Ever wondered about the difference between our Standard and GT Zero chassis? The answer is 80mm, and now you’ll be able to experience the difference first-hand!
We’re pleased to introduce our new half-and-half Zero chassis—perfect for trying both sizes during your visit to GBS or at the events we attend.

Each chassis option is designed to suit different driver preferences and needs, offering the perfect balance between comfort and performance. The Standard chassis offers a compact, agile feel, while the GT chassis provides extra space and comfort without compromising performance.

To help you decide which is right for you, we’re excited to introduce our half-and-half Zero chassis. This innovative display will allow you to experience both sizes side-by-side, giving you a unique opportunity to “try before you buy.”
The difference of 80mm does not sound a lot but it does make a big different and now you’ll be able to sit in and compare the feel of each chassis, ensuring your Zero chassis is right for to you.

We invite you to visit GBS to see the half-and-half chassis in person and try it out. Our team will be on hand to answer your questions, discuss your build, and help you make the best choice for your Zero. You’ll also have the chance to explore our factory, see more of what we do, and discover the craftsmanship behind every Zero.

Can’t make it to us? Keep an eye out for this new chassis at the events we’ll be attending throughout the year as I am sure it will make an appearance. We look forward to helping you start your Zero journey! Contact us here.

The Perfect Home for a Zero Build.....

We always love seeing what our customers are up to with their Zeros and getting a glimpse into the garages and workshops where these incredible cars come to life. Recently, we received some fantastic images from a customer who has created a brand-new home for their Zero—transforming a shipping container into the perfect home for their Zero!

The transformation is truly impressive. The container has been carefully modified, with windows and doors installed to allow for natural light and ventilation. The inside has been fully spray-painted by hand with this fantastic scenery incorporating the GBS Logo, creating a clean and functional space that looks amazing. It's the perfect example of how you don’t need a huge workshop to build and enjoy a Zero!

The Zero is an ideal build for a small garage or compact workspace, and to make things even easier, we offer a GBS Build Trolley, which allows the chassis to be easily moved around as you progress with your build. Whether you have a full workshop or a compact space, building a Zero is an achievable and rewarding project.

Thinking about starting your own Zero build? Contact us today to discuss the options available and how we can help you get started!

Customer enjoys their Zero on the track for the first time...

Always great to see customers enjoying their Zeros and receiving photos from their adventures! This customer recently took their Zero out for its first track day at Snetterton, and what a fantastic day they had! We love seeing Zeros in action—keep sharing your experiences with us!

Here a few words from Stuart about his Zero self build experience:
“Always wanted to build a Super 7 Kit car, had a good look about and stumbled across GBS. Done a factory visit and love all the cool aluminium parts that came with the kit. I could buy and pay for it stages, which suited me as I have limited space ( and Cash ). Really enjoyed the building process and enjoy driving it. A big plus point was I could fit into a standard GBS, I would had to get a SV Caterham which would of cost more. If your looking for a super 7 kit to build add GBS on your list of places to visit / research before you make a final decision”. Stuart Dunston.

Join us this Saturday (22nd March) at Blyton Park for Our First GBS Track Day of the Year! The event is now fully booked, but the GBS team will be there with our Zero demonstrators, along with several customers who are also set to hit the track. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic day of driving and adrenaline!

Even if you’re not on track, come along and soak up the atmosphere—there will also be a chance to enjoy a passenger ride in our Zero demonstrator! See you there! See more details on our event page.

Top Gear - First Drive GBS Zero review: Rated the Zero 7 out of 10.....

Earlier this year, our GBS Zero demonstrator, powered by the 2.5 Duratec engine, went away for an exciting week—and we can now finally share where it went! The team at Top Gear Magazine took it for a full review, putting it through its paces on the road and giving their expert verdict.

In their First Drive review, Top Gear rated the Zero 7 out of 10, with the headline: "Caterham Better Watch Out!" We’re thrilled with the feedback, which praises the Zero’s lightweight design, thrilling performance, and engaging driving experience. Their insights will help us refine and develop the Zero even further.

Another Zero being enjoyed on the road and performing well in USA with its recent upgrades.....

We always love hearing from our customers and seeing how their Zero builds are coming along! Recently, our USA representative, Paul, shared an exciting update on Frank’s Zero. It’s great to see the progress, and we look forward to following the next steps he has planned!

After Building and driving his car in Southern California for the last few years, GBS Customer Frank Aceves was ready for an engine upgrade to take his GBS Zero to the next level of performance.  Frank built and installed a fully reconditioned Mazda 1.8L engine with a heavily reworked  ported and polished BP4W cylinder head,  new high performance cams,  forged high compression pistons and upgraded bottom end.  With the support of Great British Sports Cars North America, Frank installed the engine in late 2024 and after a few hundred miles of breaking the engine in, took the car for a re-tune at Advanced Engine Dynamix in Corona California to see the results of all his effort.  The Engine performed on the dyno flawlessly giving more than a 15% increase in horse power and close to 20% increase in torque.   The vastly experienced Mazda engine tuners at Advanced Engine Dynamix were given the opportunity to road test the car and had one word to describe their first experience in the GBS Zero,  Wow and a big grin.  Frank now has is eye on the new GBS High-Flo Exhaust manifold as his next performance upgrade after getting to know the new performance profile of his GBS Zero.

We look forward to sharing more updates from Frank with you throughout the year. Earlier this week, another Zero kit was collected and is now on its way to a customer in the USA! With more kits currently being prepared for shipment over the next few months, it’s fantastic to see the growing Zero community worldwide.

Busy time in the USA for the GBS Team...

The start of November has been very busy for the GBS team! We flew to the USA for an amazing event, then headed straight back to the UK to exhibit at the Classic Motor Show. Richard, Matt, and our USA representative, Paul Barnes, had an incredible time representing GBS at this year’s Miata Reunion 2024 at Sonoma Raceway in the USA earlier this month! Our stand showcased a stunning line up of Mazda-based Zeros, joined by several customers who proudly displayed their finished Zeros alongside us.

In addition to the weekend’s event, two freshly completed Zero kits were recently shipped and are on their way to new U.S. owners and have now arrived. Back at GBS we have another Zero that is now packed and prepped for collection soon, and we’re aiming to have it arrive just in time for the Christmas holidays or just after! Excitingly, we’re also launching our GBS USA Hire Car in 2025, giving U.S. enthusiasts the chance to experience the thrill of driving a Zero for themselves.

The Miata Reunion was a fantastic opportunity to connect with our growing community in the USA and it was also great to catch up with many Zero builders out there. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to see the Zeros and talk to the team! Afterwards, the team headed to Las Vegas for the SEMA Show—an unforgettable experience and great day meeting new contacts and suppliers.

Please contact us for more information on the Zero models, USA options, or global shipping.
