Innovation & Development at GBS – Large-Scale 3D Printing....

At GBS, we’re always looking at new ways to improve the way we design, develop, and manufacture our products, and recently we’ve been carrying out some very interesting large-scale 3D printing projects on site.

3D printing has become a fantastic tool within our development process, allowing us to rapidly prototype new ideas and components in a quick and cost-effective way. Instead of waiting for full production parts to be manufactured, we’re able to produce prototype components in-house, test fitments, assess designs, and make changes far more efficiently during the early stages of development.

This process not only helps speed up product development but also gives us greater flexibility when testing new concepts and refining ideas before committing them to production. It allows the team to experiment, improve designs, and ensure components are functioning exactly as intended before moving forward.

One of the biggest advantages is that once a component design has been tested and confirmed, we can then move it directly into production within our fabrication or engineering departments. Using our in-house manufacturing capabilities, including CNC machining, we’re able to take those approved concepts and turn them into fully engineered production parts with the quality and precision expected from GBS.

As with much of what we do, this is another example of how keeping development and manufacturing in-house allows us to remain flexible, innovative, and continuously improving our products. With around 80% of the Zero designed and manufactured by our own team, having tools like large-scale 3D printing available on site further strengthens our ability to develop exciting new products and ideas efficiently.

There are already some exciting projects currently in development using this technology, and we’re looking forward to sharing more details soon. Stay tuned for future updates from the GBS workshop and engineering departments.

GBS to Exhibit at PistonHeads Annual Service 2026....

We’re excited to announce that GBS has been invited to exhibit for the first time at this year’s PistonHeads Annual Service, taking place on Saturday 8th August at Bicester Motion.

This is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase the GBS Zero to a wider audience, and we’re looking forward to being part of what has quickly become one of the UK’s must-attend automotive events. The GBS team will be on hand throughout the day with a selection of Zeros and our product range, so whether you’re an existing owner, a future builder, or simply a car enthusiast, we’d love you to come and see us.

Launched as part of PistonHeads’ 25th anniversary celebrations, the Annual Service has rapidly grown into a flagship event. The inaugural show welcomed over 5,000 enthusiasts, and by 2025 it had expanded into a complete sell-out with a record 7,000 attendees — highlighting just how popular and well-regarded it has become.

For one day only, the entire Bicester Motion site is transformed into a vibrant automotive showcase — a privilege reserved for only a select number of events. The live stage sits at the heart of the day, hosting exclusive interviews, podcast recordings, and award ceremonies, while across the venue visitors can explore an incredible mix of display cars, themed areas, manufacturers, specialists, and car clubs.

We’re proud to be part of this exciting event for the first time and can’t wait to meet fellow enthusiasts, share our passion for the Zero, and connect with the wider automotive community.

Be sure to keep an eye on our events page for more details — and make sure to come and say hello if you’re attending!

A Fantastic Start to the Bank Holiday Weekend – GBS Friday Night at the Factory.....

On Friday 1st May, we kicked off the bank holiday weekend in style with our first GBS Friday Night at the Factory event of the year — and what a fantastic evening it was.

With the gates opening at 5pm, it didn’t take long for the car park to fill up. It was great to see so many Zeros together, alongside a wide variety of other sports cars, all coming together to enjoy a relaxed summer evening with fellow enthusiasts.

We were all treated to freshly baked pizza from Sherwood Fired Pizza, along with drinks served throughout the evening, creating a great atmosphere for everyone to unwind, chat, and enjoy the cars on display. Events like this are all about bringing the community together, and it was brilliant to see such a strong turnout.

We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who joined us — we hope you enjoyed the evening as much as we did.

Great to see a Zero out on the road and being enjoyed in the USA.....

We love seeing Zeros being driven all over the world — on the road and on track. This one, based in Florida, has already covered its first 250 miles. GBS Customer Dana has sent us over some photos and shared details on his build and what he has done to it -

Dana said “I've been at the car for almost three years and it's now licensed and registered in the US.  I'm slowly increasing the range of drives as I gain confidence in the build. I started the car as I wanted a long term project and have been working slowly, concentrating on quality time rather than just getting it built. I had the fiberglas parts scanned, got custom paint to match and painted it in my garage. The color per Valspar is "School bus green" but it looks like BRG to me! (I have the colour formula is anyone needs it). The yellow stripe is 3M vinyl car wrap which I applied using their fine line tape. I've also made a number of mods to make it easier to build and maintain such as hinged/removeable panels, inspection ports, screws rather than rivets, etc.

I've built houses, a couple airplanes and several boats but this is the first car(mods to the engine/suspension on the MX-5 were my last long project). The 7 still needs a few things tweaked and some final trim and I expect to be totally done this summer. I'm just taking a break from working on it now to enjoy the spring weather - it is a blast to drive and attracts attention everywhere”.

”Here’s a list of most of the mods I made to the GBS, hopefully for the better-
- An aircraft-type inspection port over the oil filter so it can be easily removed.
- Modification to the steering shaft surround to allow the push button in the center of the wheel to sound the horn. This one took a while – I think I used nineteen 3/32” rivets to put it back together after cutting it up. Recovered it with the same stuff I used on the center console and boots.
- Removeable panel on the right side beside the U-joint for access to the speedo sensor, wiring, etc.
- Hinge on the flat panel just forward of the firewall to allow access to the wiring under it. It’s held down with 3 6mm screws. Wiring and fuses for the heated seats are under there.
- Every aluminum panel on the car is painted on both sides with epoxy primer and finish paint. I live on a saltwater canal and corrosion is a major issue here.
- 6-32 rivnuts on the scuttle to attach the firewall with SS screws to ease removal if necessary.
- All rivnuts on the car are stainless steel for corrosion issues.
- I split the panel behind the seats to make it easier to fit w/o bending – connected with hard flush rivets after installing.
- The bracing flange to mount the dash to the scuttle was attached with 3/32” flush rivets.
- The only panels I bonded on are the footwells. This for relative ease of repair if needed. I used more rivets than called for and added beads of low modulus construction silicone on the outer side panels – these can be easily cut through to remove the panels if I get dinged. I will not race this car and a future owner could disassemble it and bond the panels on if needed.
- The only 6mm rivnuts(9mm holes) I put in the frame are a couple for the rear fenders and the oil catch tank in the nose. Things that don’t need much holding power like bonnet pins, hinged panel holddowns, boot panel over the diff, arch trim, etc. are 5 & 6mm screws in holes tapped into the square tubing  with blue locktite as needed. All screws are SS.
- Brackets made from aluminum angle to mount the front turn signals – allows removal of the nose w/o having to disconnect wiring. Probably only useful in the US.
- The trim rings around the shifter and hand brake were made from a 12” x 12” sheet of 3/16” 6061 aluminum, cut to shape and polished. I made the boots from Naugahyde I got from a local hobby store.
- I eliminated the rear fog light; no need or requirement for it here. Tail lights are LED units I got from Chris Watson with backup, turns, brakes built in. I didn’t care for the look of the lights provided. I would have used the current rear lights if they had been available then.
- I had the engine supplier install Crower stage 2+ cams and retainers; this thing really pulls hard when the revs come up.
- Installed 205F/225R tires. One side rubbed a bit at the rear of the back fender, but a little sanding fixed that.
- The boot is covered with carbon fiber panels I got from Amazon and is lockable. Liked the look plus I didn’t want to use the vinyl cover as boat-type “poppers” don’t fare well in the saltwater atmosphere here.
- The only carpeting I’ve installed so far has been on the sides of the footwells. I’ll try to find some rubber mats for the footwell bottoms. Will probably cut some small pieces of carpet for the area under the front of the seats but will not carpet under the seats. I’ll probably put carpet on the panel behind the seats. Will put some in the boot sides but the bottom will have a removeable piece. We have torrential thunderstorms here in the summer and it
will get soaked; I want water to be able to run out quickly. I doubt I’ll put carpet beside the seats as they rub pretty hard against the panels as is.

There’s no IVA here in Florida, nor even an inspection of any kind. I had to take the car to a Florida state DMV office where the state assigned VIN sticker was applied. Evidently, the car had to appear “in person” to verify the number was actually attached to a car that didn’t already have one.

I have 250 miles on the car now and nothing has fallen off or caught fire… I’m having a great time with it”. Dana,B - Florida, USA.

First GBS Track Day of 2026 — What a Day!

What a fantastic way to kick off our first GBS track day of 2026! At Blyton Park (one of our favourite tracks) with Javelin Trackdays, the day delivered everything you could want from a track event — sunshine, speed, great company, and plenty of action out on circuit.

Its always great to see so many Zeros together in one place, all being driven as they were designed to be — out on track. From seasoned drivers to those experiencing their first time behind the wheel, the atmosphere throughout the day was friendly, supportive, and full of enthusiasm.

Our Zero demonstrator cars were kept busy from start to finish, giving passenger laps and showcasing exactly what the Zero is capable of. It’s always a highlight to see the reactions from those stepping out of the car — a real reminder of just how exciting these cars are to drive, especially on the track!

As with any proper track day, there were a few moments of drama along the way, including the odd spin and even some trackside repairs. But that’s all part of the experience, and it was great to see everyone pitching in, helping each other, and getting cars back out on track as quickly as possible.

Events like this are what the GBS community is all about — bringing people together to enjoy their cars, share knowledge, and have a great time in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and made the day such a success. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. We’d also like to thank the team at Javelin Trackdays for helping to deliver a great event. We’ll be announcing our next track event soon — so keep an eye out, and we hope to see even more of you on track next time!

Head to our GBS events page to see more events we have planned, including our first GBS Friday Night at the Factory event happening this Friday (1st May) at GBS - Gate open at 5pm and all cars are welcome to join us!

GBS Team Member Moves on to the Royal Air Force...

We will soon be saying farewell to Lewis, who is leaving us to follow a long-held dream of joining the Royal Air Force.

Lewis has been a valued member of the GBS team for over two and a half years, working within our workshop and contributing to a wide variety of projects. During his time with us, he has gained hands-on experience across a full range of vehicles — not just Zeros — developing his skills and knowledge in a fast-paced and varied environment.

One of the standout highlights of his time here was the opportunity to work on an F1 car that came through the workshop for ongoing work — a memorable experience and a testament to the level of expertise within the team.

From day one, Lewis had a clear ambition to become a pilot in the Royal Air Force, and we’re delighted to see him take the next step towards achieving that goal. He will be starting his training soon, working towards his ultimate aim of becoming a Typhoon pilot.

While we’re sad to see him go, we couldn’t be more supportive of his journey and proud to have been part of it.

On behalf of everyone at GBS, we wish Lewis all the very best for the future and every success in his training. We look forward to following his progress and hearing about his achievements in the years to come.

Take a look inside the GBS workshop at two stunning Zero builds....

It’s been a busy and productive few weeks in the GBS workshop, and as always, we’ve had an interesting mix of cars passing through — not just Zeros. It’s always a pleasure to see a variety of Zero builds coming together, each one unique in its own way.

Recently, we’ve welcomed two particularly impressive examples into the workshop for our IVA preparation service, both currently being carefully prepared ahead of their tests.

The first is a stunning Ultimate Zero kit build, powered by the ever-popular Ford Duratec 2.3 engine — a fantastic choice for those looking for strong performance and a proven setup. Alongside it, we have a Mazda Module Zero build, based on the Mazda MX-5 donor platform. This build showcases the versatility of the Zero concept, offering a more accessible route into ownership while still delivering an engaging driving experience.

These two cars are great examples of how different running gear and build approaches can produce equally impressive results. Every Zero that comes through our workshop is bespoke and individual, reflecting the vision and preferences of its owner — something we’re always proud to support.

We’re looking forward to seeing both of these builds successfully pass their IVA tests, get registered, and most importantly, be enjoyed out on the road and track.

If you’re thinking about building your own sports car, our team is here to help. Whether you’re just starting out or already partway through a build, we can offer advice, guidance, and support every step of the way.

Alternatively, why not come and see us in person? Join us on Friday 1st May at GBS for our Friday Night at the Factory event from 5pm. There’s always a great turnout of Zeros on display — the perfect opportunity to get inspired and chat with the team. We look forward to seeing you there!

A Day of Highs and Challenges at Donington Park for the GBS Zero Race Team….

It was a true mixed bag for the GBS Zero race team at Donington Park this weekend, as we took on the latest round of the CSCC Magnificent Sevens Series. Despite the challenges, the team delivered an incredible performance and came away with two trophies— a testament to determination, teamwork, and the capability of the Zero race car.

The day started with drama in qualifying when a failure of the lower rear rose joints forced the car into the paddock for urgent repairs. In a race against time, the team worked flat out and managed to get the car back together with just seconds to spare before heading out for Race 1.

Behind the wheel, Will Orton delivered an outstanding drive. Starting from the back, he pushed hard through the field, gaining an incredible eight places to secure 1st in class — an impressive result under pressure and in wet conditions. He also set the 5th fastest lap of the race with a time of 1:34.202, highlighting the true pace of the car.

Joining Will on track were fellow Zero drivers Chris McQueen and Ben Low. Unfortunately, it wasn’t their day. Chris was unable to make qualifying due to a wheel bearing issue, while Ben, who had worked hard to even make the event following earlier engine troubles, was ultimately forced to retire during qualifying when the issue returned.

Race 2 brought more action — and more adversity. After another strong showing, Will was unfortunately caught up in a incident on the track, sustaining damage to the front end and nose cone which brought his race to an early end. Remarkably, despite not finishing, he still secured another class win, alongside setting the 4th fastest lap with a time of 1:42.480.

It was a day full of ups and downs — but ultimately, the highs outweighed the challenges. The team’s efforts not only secured two trophies but also proved the strength and resilience of the car in real-world conditions, including validating the effectiveness of our crash structure.

A huge thank you goes to our GBS team, our supporters, partners, and of course Will for delivering such an incredible performance in demanding conditions. We’d also like to thank the organisers of the CSCC Magnificent Sevens Series and all the marshals for ensuring a safe and well-run event.

Finally, thank you to everyone who came along to support and watch — it was an amazing day, and we’re already looking forward to the next one.
Visit our GBS YouTube Chanel to see more action from the day and a full race review.

Strong Start to the Race Season for a GBS Zero in Malta.....

It’s always fantastic to see our Zeros being enjoyed both on the road and out on track — and even better when they’re delivering strong results.

We’re pleased to share a great result from Malta, where a GBS Zero secured 2nd place in class at the opening round of the Island Car Club Malta Hillclimb Championship in Baħrija. A brilliant way to kick off the season.

Driven by Herman Magro, the GBS Zero performed exactly as intended, showcasing the balance, capability, and performance that these cars are built to deliver.

This result reflects not only the work put in behind the scenes but also the focus and commitment to getting the very best out of the car. It’s great to see that effort translating into success at events.

We’re looking forward to following this Zero throughout the year as it continues to compete in the championship and take on more events.
Fancy seeing how the Zero perform on the track? Then why not join us on Saturday 25th April for the first GBS Track Day of the year at Blyton Park, more details can be found on our event page.

Great to see the GBS Zero making an impression in the USA.....

Last week we received some fantastic photos from GBS Zero owner Aaron in the USA, showing his Zero on display at the Salem Roadster Show in Oregon. Aaron’s car attracted plenty of attention and interest throughout the event and was one of only a few British cars on display.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Aaron and his family to the GBS factory last summer whilst on holiday in the UK. It was fantastic to finally meet them in person after many months of working together remotely. During their visit, they enjoyed a full tour of the GBS factory, met the team, and experienced a test drive in our latest GBS demonstrator.

Some of you may also recognise Aaron’s Zero from our stand at the Miata Reunion at Sonoma Raceway in California in 2024, where Richard, Matt and Paul were attending. The car certainly gathered a lot of attention and excitement there as well.

We’re incredibly proud that the GBS Zero is now enjoyed by owners all over the world, including a growing number of passionate customers across the United States. To support this growing community, we have a dedicated GBS USA representative who is on hand to assist with enquiries, provide local knowledge, and help guide customers through the self-build or turnkey process, shipping, and more.

Whether you're based in California, New York, Texas, or anywhere in between, we can help make your Zero dream a reality.

If you're based in the USA and are interested in the GBS Zero — whether it’s our Mazda-based kit, a custom configuration, or a fully factory-built option — get in touch. We’d be happy to connect you with our USA representative or arrange a video call with our team here at the factory to explore the options available.

We look forward to seeing even more Zeros on the road across the USA and welcoming more American customers to the GBS factory in the future.

Awesome Test Day at Donington Park with the Zeros - CSCC Magnificent Sevens Test Day....

We had an awesome day at Donington Park last week as our GBS Zero Race Car took to the track for the CSCC Magnificent Sevens Series official test day.

Behind the wheel was Will Orton, who put the car through its paces in what proved to be a hugely productive and successful outing. The conditions were kind to us, with dry weather throughout the day making it ideal for consistent running and focused testing.

The Zero performed exceptionally well, achieving some very competitive lap times and showing strong pace straight out of the box. The day wasn’t just about speed, though — it was an important opportunity to gather data and continue developing the car ahead of the season opener next month.

We worked through a detailed testing programme, including Damper adjustments and suspension setup refinement, Engine calibration tweaks and general setup changes to improve balance and drivability.

Our Zero race car is powered by a standard-spec Ford 2.5 Duratec engine fitted with ATR throttle bodies, delivering strong, reliable performance — perfect for competitive club racing.

The car is now back in the workshop for further refinements and final preparation ahead of the first race of the season. We’re excited to confirm that we’re expecting four or five more Zeros to be joining us on the grid later this month — it’s shaping up to be a fantastic start to the year.

On the test day we were also joined by another Zero owner, who will also be racing in the series. It’s great to see more Zero drivers stepping into competitive racing and building a strong presence within the Magnificent Sevens paddock.

It was also fantastic to welcome customers who came along to support us and see the Zeros in action on track. Events like these are a brilliant way to experience the cars doing what they’re built for — lightweight, responsive, and seriously capable on circuit.

If you’re interested in going racing, there’s still time to enter the CSCC Magnificent Sevens Series this season. It’s a competitive yet friendly championship and a perfect platform for Zero owners looking to take the next step into motorsport.

Alternatively, why not join us at our upcoming GBS Track Day at Blyton Park in April? It’s a great opportunity to get your Zero out on track, develop your driving skills, and enjoy the car in a safe, supportive environment. There are still places available!

We’re looking forward to continuing to work closely with Will as we push to get the very best out of our Zero Race Car this season — Exciting times ahead!
