The first ever GBS Zero is collected & ready to be enjoyed.....

Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of welcoming a very special car back to the factory — the very first GBS Zero ever built.
With the 20th anniversary of the GBS Zero coming up next year, it was a fantastic opportunity to see where the Zero journey began and compare this original car alongside one of our current-generation Zeros.

The evolution over the past two decades is clear to see. From developments in the chassis and suspension to advances in manufacturing, engine options and a huge range of upgrades, the Zero has continued to evolve while always retaining the same lightweight, driver-focused character that has made it so popular with enthusiasts around the world.

This original Zero is Ford Pinto powered and has enjoyed many upgrades and plenty of miles over the years. It was fantastic to welcome the car back to GBS and have the opportunity to look back at the beginnings of a journey that has now spanned almost 20 years.

We’re also delighted to share that this piece of GBS history has now been sold and collected by its new owner. After visiting us last week to see the car before collection and enjoy a test drive, the new owner returned this morning to collect the Zero and take it home.

We’re pleased that this very special car will continue its journey on the road, creating more memories and being enjoyed for many more miles to come.

As we look ahead to celebrating 20 years of the GBS Zero next year, it seems particularly fitting that the very first car has returned to the factory before beginning its next chapter.

Busy evening at our last GBS Friday Night at the Factory event.....

Another Fantastic Friday Night at the Factory evening! Despite the rain forecast, which thankfully seemed to miss us, we had another fantastic turnout and an overflowing car park. It was brilliant to see such a great variety of cars arriving throughout the evening, with plenty of familiar faces alongside lots of new visitors joining us.

Friday Night at the Factory is always a great opportunity to bring together the GBS community, customers, friends and fellow car enthusiasts. Whether you own a Zero, are currently building one, are thinking about starting a future project or simply love cars, everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the evening.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make these such a brilliant events. We love opening the gates at GBS and sharing our passion for cars, engineering and all things automotive with so many like-minded people.

We’d also like to say a big thank you to Sherwood Fired for the amazing pizzas, which went down a treat at all the Friday events over the summer!

Building a GBS Zero Ultimate Kit: Andy’s Journey from Kit collection to Registration....

Building a kit car is a big project, but with the right kit, preparation and support, it can be an incredibly rewarding experience. In our latest video, GBS customer Andy Silvester talks us through his personal build journey and what it’s really like to build a GBS Zero from the ground up.

Andy chose the GBS Zero Ultimate Self-Build Kit and successfully completed his build in just under one year – an impressive achievement for a home builder.

The GBS Zero Ultimate self build kit is designed to give customers everything they need to take on their own Zero build, with the flexibility to create a car to their own specification.

From the chassis and suspension through to the engine, running gear, bodywork and finishing touches, the Zero can be built and developed around the owner’s requirements.

For Andy, the project was about more than simply putting a car together. It was about the experience of building his own sports car and seeing the project develop from a collection of components into a complete, road-going GBS Zero.

After almost a year of work, Andy's Zero is now complete and has reached the exciting final stage of the process.

The car passed its IVA test begining of August and is currently waiting for its registration to be finalised, meaning it won't be long before Andy can finally get behind the wheel and enjoy that all-important first drive.

That moment is what every self-builder works towards – seeing the finished car leave the garage and take to the road for the first time.

The first ever Zero is back with us at GBS....

Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of welcoming the very first GBS Zero ever built back to GBS. For everyone at GBS, it was a proud moment to see where the journey began. This car represents the start of the Zero story, and with next year marking 20 years of the GBS Zero, its return couldn't have been more fitting.

Having the original Zero back at the factory also gave us the unique opportunity to park it alongside one of our current-generation cars. Seeing them side by side really highlighted just how far the Zero has evolved over the past two decades. While the original car still captures everything that made the Zero such a fantastic driver's car, years of continuous development, engineering improvements and customer feedback have helped shape the Zero into the highly refined sports car it is today.

From chassis refinements and suspension developments to improved manufacturing techniques, new engine options and an ever-growing range of upgrades and accessories, the GBS Zero has continually evolved while staying true to its lightweight, driver-focused philosophy.

This particular car is powered by a Ford Pinto engine and has benefited from several tasteful upgrades over the years, showing how owners have continued to personalise and improve their cars while enjoying thousands of miles on the road.

We're also pleased to say that this historic Zero has already found its next owner and will soon be leaving GBS once again to begin its next chapter. We're delighted that this important part of GBS history will continue to be driven and enjoyed, exactly as it was intended.

As we look ahead to celebrating 20 years of the GBS Zero next year, seeing the very first car return to the factory has reminded us just how far we've come. We'd like to thank all of our customers, suppliers and supporters who have been part of that journey.

GBS at the PistonHeads Annual Service – What a Fantastic Day!

What a fantastic day we had at this year’s PistonHeads Annual Service at Bicester Motion on Saturday 8th August! The GBS team were up bright and early, getting our stand in the Automotive Hangar ready with a selection of our GBS Zeros and products on display. Once the doors opened, it was clear it was going to be a busy one!

We had a fantastic turnout, with our stand busy throughout the day. It was great to meet so many car enthusiasts, existing GBS owners, prospective builders and people discovering and sitting in the GBS Zero for the first time.

There were plenty of conversations about the Zero, from self-build options and Mazda donor kits to engines, specifications and the different ways we can help customers build their dream car.

The whole GBS team really enjoyed the event and the opportunity to chat with everyone who stopped by. It was also great to see so much interest in the cars and to hear from people who are considering starting their own GBS Zero journey.

A big thank you to everyone who visited our stand, stopped for a chat, asked questions and showed their support. We really appreciate it!

New Product Launch – Removable Bolt-In Roll Cage for the GBS Zero.....

We are pleased to announce the launch of our brand-new removable bolt-in roll cage, now available for the GBS Zero.

Designed, engineered and manufactured in-house by the GBS team, this latest addition to our product range offers Zero owners an exciting new upgrade that combines practicality, versatility and performance.

Unlike a permanently fitted roll cage, our new bolt-in design allows the roll cage to be installed or removed when required, giving owners greater flexibility depending on how they use their car. Whether your Zero is primarily used on the road, for track days, or a combination of both, this new design provides a practical solution while maintaining the clean appearance and performance the Zero is known for.

The roll cage has been developed specifically for the GBS Zero and is available for both the Standard Zero and the GT Zero and the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Zeros, ensuring compatibility across the range.

Manufactured using high-quality materials and finished to the same high standards as the rest of our products, each roll cage is produced in-house by the GBS fabrication team, allowing us to maintain complete control over quality throughout the manufacturing process.

As with many of our products, customers can also discuss bespoke finish options to complement their individual build.

Welcoming our USA Customer to GBS….

One of the best parts of what we do at Great British Sports Cars is meeting customers from all around the world, so earlier this month it was a real pleasure to welcome Andrew and his family from the USA to GBS.

Earlier this year, Andrew took delivery of his GBS Zero kit, and while visiting the UK on holiday, he was keen to come and see where his kit was designed and manufactured. It was nice to finally meet him and his family in person after months of keeping in touch throughout his build journey.

The family enjoyed a full behind-the-scenes factory tour, giving them the opportunity to see every stage of the GBS Zero manufacturing process. From our workshop and engineering department to fabrication, assembly, composites and our ATR Products range, they were able to experience first-hand the passion, craftsmanship and British engineering that goes into every GBS Zero.

Of course, no visit to GBS would be complete without experiencing the Zero on the road. Both Andrew and his son enjoyed passenger test drives, giving them the chance to experience the performance, handling and excitement that the GBS Zero is renowned for.

As a company, we work with customers all over the world and regularly keep in touch through emails, phone calls and video meetings. While modern technology makes it easy to support our overseas customers throughout their builds, nothing compares to welcoming them to GBS, showing them around the factory and meeting them face to face.

We would like to thank Andrew and his family for taking the time to visit us during their holiday. It was a pleasure to show them around, and we hope they enjoyed their visit as much as we enjoyed hosting them.

Last Saturday (18th July) we were delighted to welcome another fantastic selection of cars and enthusiasts to GBS for our latest GBS Cars & Coffee event, proudly sponsored by Yokohama Tyres.

From early in the morning, the GBS car park quickly filled with an impressive variety of vehicles, including many GBS Zeros, classic cars, performance cars, modern sports cars, and everything in between. One of the things we enjoy most about our Cars & Coffee events is seeing such a diverse range of vehicles and bringing together like-minded enthusiasts who all share a passion for cars.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the event another great success. It was fantastic to catch up with familiar faces, meet plenty of new ones, and see so many people enjoying the event.

We'd also like to say a big thank you to Yokohama Tyres for supporting the event and providing a selection of Yokohama giveaways, which proved very popular throughout the morning. Supporting the Next Generation of Engineers at GBS.....

We regularly receive enquiries about work experience opportunities, and whenever possible, we are always keen to support and encourage the next generation of engineers, technicians, and motorsport enthusiasts.

This week, we were delighted to welcome Nathaniel from Fulham Boys School, who joined the GBS team for a week of work experience.

During his time with us, Nathaniel had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across several areas of the business, including our workshop, engineering department, fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing. He also saw first-hand what goes into designing, developing, and building the GBS Zero, as well as the wide range of ATR Products that we manufacture in-house.

Work experience is a fantastic way for young people to gain an insight into the automotive and engineering industry, helping them develop practical skills while learning about the different career opportunities available within motorsport and manufacturing. We hope Nathaniel enjoyed experiencing the day-to-day activities of the GBS team and gained a better understanding of what goes into producing our sports cars and performance components.

It was a pleasure to have Nathaniel with us throughout the week. He showed a great attitude, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn, everyone at GBS wishes Nathaniel every success with his future studies and career, and we look forward to welcoming him back to future GBS events.

Another fantastic GBS Friday Night at the Factory event.....

On Friday 19th June, we started the weekend in style with our second GBS Friday Night at the Factory event of the year — and what a fantastic evening it was.

With the gates opening at 5pm, it didn't take long for the car park to fill with an impressive variety of vehicles. One of the highlights of the evening was the arrival of the Bond Bug Club, who joined us for part of the evening and created a fantastic display in one corner of the car park. Their colourful and unique cars attracted plenty of attention and made a great addition to the event.

It was also fantastic to see so many GBS Zeros together, alongside a wide variety of other sports cars, classics, performance cars. One of the things we enjoy most about Friday Night at the Factory is seeing such a diverse range of vehicles and enthusiasts come together. Whether you own a Zero, a classic car, a supercar, a motorcycle, or simply enjoy being around great vehicles, everyone is welcome.

Throughout the evening, visitors enjoyed freshly baked pizzas from Sherwood Fired Pizza, along with drinks, cakes, and refreshments served by the GBS team. The warm weather, great company, and relaxed atmosphere made for a perfect summer evening.

These events are all about bringing together the wider automotive community, giving people the opportunity to meet fellow enthusiasts, catch up with friends, see some fantastic vehicles, and enjoy an evening surrounded by people who share the same passion for cars and motorsport.

Zero Mazda Build Passes IVA and now ready to be enjoyed on the road....

This stunning Zero Mazda build has now successfully passed its IVA test and is just one step away from being registered and enjoyed on both the road and track later this year.

This build is a fantastic example of what can be achieved using our popular Zero Mazda Module Kit combined with a Mazda MX-5 donor vehicle. The Mazda-based build route continues to be one of the most popular options for customers looking to create a lightweight, high-performance sports car for road and track while making use of the excellent components from the MX-5.

Starting with a Mazda donor car and our Zero Mazda Module Kit, builders can create a truly bespoke sports car tailored to their own requirements. The modular build process allows customers to spread the cost of the project while enjoying the satisfaction of building their own car.

One of the great advantages of the Zero is the vast range of options and upgrades available throughout the build. Zero kit collected and another registered for the road.....

It has been another busy and exciting few weeks at GBS, with both the start of a brand-new Zero build and the completion of another customer project ready to be enjoyed on the road, and several other Zeros that have recently passed IVA and now also waiting registration before hitting the road.

Last month we saw the collection of a stunning newly painted Ultimate Zero kit, ready for its owner to begin the next stage of the build process. Every Zero build is unique, and it's always exciting for both us and the customer to see a project move from a collection of components to a finished sports car.

On the same day, another customer collected their completed Zero, which has recently passed its IVA test and is now fully registered and road legal. After months of hard work, planning, and dedication, there's nothing quite like seeing a Zero leave the factory ready to enjoy on the open road.

The contrast between these two collections perfectly highlights the journey of a Zero build — from collecting a brand-new kit and beginning the assembly process, through to passing IVA and taking the keys to a fully registered sports car. It's a journey we are proud to support every step of the way.

GBS Customer enjoying a strong start to the Motorsport Season in his Zero....

We always love to see customers out enjoying their Zeros, whether on the road, track, or competing in motorsport events around the UK. Recently, we received an update from GBS customer Roy Woodfield, who has been having an impressive season competing in both the Curborough Championship and the Midland Speed Championship with his Zero.

Roy is currently lying 2nd in class and an impressive 9th overall out of 70 competitors entered in the Curborough Championship — a fantastic achievement and a real testament to both his driving and the capability of the Zero platform.

Alongside this, Roy is also competing in the Midland Speed Championship, which gives him the opportunity to compete at a variety of well-known venues around the country. So far this season, he has already tackled the famous Shelsley Walsh hill climb and is preparing for a double-header event at Prescott on 13th and 14th June, followed by Harewood on 1st and 2nd August, alongside additional Midland Speed Championship rounds at Curborough.

Despite only having completed two rounds so far in the Midland Speed Championship, Roy is already sitting 3rd in class and 37th overall, showing just how competitive both he and the car have been this year.

Roy has also been discussing potential upgrades with Richard, including gearbox, suspension setup, and brake improvements, as he looks to further develop the car and continue improving performance. Some of these upgrades may be completed before the end of the current season, with further developments potentially planned over the winter period.

It’s always fantastic for the whole GBS team to see customers using and enjoying their Zeros in competition, and Roy’s results so far this year are a brilliant example of just how capable and versatile the Zero can be in motorsport.

GBS enjoys a busy weekend at the National Kit & Sports Car Show.....

Last weekend (30th & 31st May), the GBS team had a fantastic and busy weekend exhibiting at the National Kit Car Show at the Three Counties Showground, Malvern.

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who took the time to visit our stand over the weekend. It was great to meet so many new faces, catch up with existing customers, and talk to enthusiasts who are considering building their own Zero.

Located in the main exhibition hall, our stand featured a factory-built Ford Duratec-powered Zero, giving visitors the opportunity to get up close to one of our most popular build options. Also on display was our unique half-and-half Zero chassis, which allows you to compare the standard and GT wide-body chassis options side by side and find the best fit for you!

Alongside the Zero range, we also showcased a selection of our ATR products, all of which are designed and manufactured in house by our team. These products continue to prove popular with customers and are available online through our parts and accessories website, Kit Spares.

The weather was perfect throughout the weekend, helping to create a fantastic atmosphere around the showground. The outdoor areas were particularly busy, with a variety of exhibitors, car clubs, trade stands, and lots of interesting vehicles on display especially on the Saturday.

Events like Malvern are always a highlight of the year for the GBS team, providing a great opportunity to showcase the Zero, meet customers face to face, answer questions, and help future owners start planning their dream build.

The next event for the GBS team is our second Friday Night at the Factory event of the year, taking place on Friday 19th June at GBS. Following that, we will be hosting our next GBS Cars & Coffee event, proudly sponsored by Yokohama Tyres, on Saturday 18th July. Both events are open to all enthusiasts and provide a fantastic opportunity to enjoy great cars, meet fellow enthusiasts, and spend time with the GBS team.

Great to welcome returning GBS customer to collect his second Zero kit.....

Great to welcome returning GBS customer Matt back to GBS to collect his brand-new Ultimate Zero kit earlier this month, finished in the stunning Volkswagen colour Ascot Grey. The colour looks fantastic and is sure to make this latest build stand out once completed.

This will be Matt’s second Zero build, having previously built his first car back in 2011. After many years of ownership and enjoyment, Matt eventually sold the car, but the passion for the Zero never went away. Now, he’s back and excited to begin another build — this time sharing the experience with his son.

One of the things we always love about the Zero is how it brings people together. Building a kit car is not just about the finished result; it’s about the journey, the memories created, and the skills learned along the way. The Zero makes a fantastic father-and-son or daughter project, giving families the opportunity to spend quality time together while creating something truly special and unique.

Matt’s new Ultimate Zero build is another great example of how every Zero is completely individual, with owners able to personalise their cars through colour choices, engine options, interiors, suspension setups, and much more. We’re looking forward to following this build over the coming months and seeing the project progress from kit collection through to completion and its first drive on the road.

It’s also an exciting time in the GBS workshop, with several other stunning Zero builds currently away at paint and more cars due back with us soon. We’re looking forward to sharing updates, photos, and videos of these builds as they continue to come together.

Innovation & Development at GBS – Large-Scale 3D Printing....

At GBS, we’re always looking at new ways to improve the way we design, develop, and manufacture our products, and recently we’ve been carrying out some very interesting large-scale 3D printing projects on site.

3D printing has become a fantastic tool within our development process, allowing us to rapidly prototype new ideas and components in a quick and cost-effective way. Instead of waiting for full production parts to be manufactured, we’re able to produce prototype components in-house, test fitments, assess designs, and make changes far more efficiently during the early stages of development.

This process not only helps speed up product development but also gives us greater flexibility when testing new concepts and refining ideas before committing them to production. It allows the team to experiment, improve designs, and ensure components are functioning exactly as intended before moving forward.

One of the biggest advantages is that once a component design has been tested and confirmed, we can then move it directly into production within our fabrication or engineering departments. Using our in-house manufacturing capabilities, including CNC machining, we’re able to take those approved concepts and turn them into fully engineered production parts with the quality and precision expected from GBS.

As with much of what we do, this is another example of how keeping development and manufacturing in-house allows us to remain flexible, innovative, and continuously improving our products. With around 80% of the Zero designed and manufactured by our own team, having tools like large-scale 3D printing available on site further strengthens our ability to develop exciting new products and ideas efficiently.
