Lauren our Fabrication & Welding Apprentice enjoys her first year at GBS.....

Lauren joined the GBS Team just over a year ago and is currently doing her Apprenticeship with us for Fabrication & Welding and studying at West Notts College in Mansfield on a Level 3 Fabricator course where she attends 1 day a week. Lauren is based in our fabrication department which earlier this year moved premises into our current building that we expanded into, where she helped with the move into the facilities. Lauren and the team are working on some existing and new products that the team have been developing that we will be releasing later this year. At the beginning of her apprenticeship with us, Lauren had a project of her own which was to design and make a TV Display stand out of a barrel drum that we wanted to have on our stand at shows and events and that can now be seen in our showroom.

Laurens says “ The first year has gone very quick and iv really enjoyed it, learning lots of new skills and had lots of exciting projects and products to work on. Moving into the new premises earlier this and being under one roof is great for me, as being an apprentice I able to work alongside other members of the team in other departments. I am now looking forward to the next 3 years of my apprenticeship with the team.

We have a fantastic team here at GBS who like Lauren all have a strong passion for all types of Motorsport. Lauren has a strong back ground in mechanics and interest in motorsport and especially motorbikes, having a motorbike of her own and recently passing her driving theory test she will soon be doing year driving test later this year.

We are proud that around 80% of the Zero is made in house and many of you that have already visited us at the GBS Factory will know that we design and manufacture a lot of our products in house including the ATR Suspension, Throttle Bodies and more.
Many of you may have met Lauren at GBS and at our Cars & Coffee and Friday Night at the Factory events that we host. You will be able to meet Lauren later this month at our last Friday Night at the Factory of the year that is happening on Friday 25th August. See more details here on our event page.

Another Zero IVA Tested and soon to be enjoyed on the road......

GBS Customer Chris Jones from Keswick collected his Zero Self Build Kit from us 10 years ago on the 15th September which was his 50th Birthday present. Chris’s Zero that is powered by the Ford Zetec engine on the ATR Throttle Bodies was with us for our IVA Service that we offer and recently passed its IVA test, came to collect it earlier this week.

Chris is now looking forward to enjoying it on the road once its registered and is planning on joining us in his newly registered Zero next month at our GBS Cars & Coffee event that is happening at GBS on Saturday 17th June.

GBS Zero Student Build - Tesla engine into a Zero.....

GBS Zero Student Build…… Earlier this year a college placed their order for their first GBS Zero Self Build Kit which the students will be building later this year. This wasn’t a standard kit as they wanted the Zero to be electrically powered by a Tesla engine. So the Zero chassis has had to be modified to suit their engine choice.

This complete custom engine installation is currently underway to accommodate a Tesla engine in our fabrication department. We look forward to following and supporting the students with this exciting build.
We are able to work with you to customise the whole power train and other aspects of the car. We recently completed a Zero build which you may have seen featured on our news page before that was powered by a Kawasaki 1400 GTR engine that is now complete and road registered and being enjoyed on the road. Before it left the GBS Workshop we made a short video talking through the spec of this Zero and this can now be seen on our GBS YouTube channel.

The Zeros can be enjoyed on the Road & Track, with the option to have this Zero kit with the Zero fully welded integrated Roll Cage, which are MSA Compliant and FIA Compliant.

See more details about the Zero Self Build options we offer including the Zero Custom kit here, or contact us to discuss your Zero build.

Bespoke paint options..... Behind the scenes at paint.....

Full custom paint for your Zero….

Our full custom paint option that we offer has become a very popular option and recently we have seen some very nice paint colour and options being chosen, as well as some that are scheduled for paint over the coming weeks that we look forward to sharing with you. Our custom paint option is truly individual to you, we work with you from start to finish to get your bespoke paint colour and design that you want.

Above is a recent Zero factory build at paint that is now back with us in the build bay for the build to continue, we will share more details on this paint colour and spec next month. A lot of preparation work goes into getting the Zero ready for paint, the paint process usually takes around 2 to 3 weeks but that can change depending on the paint design.

If you already have a Zero then we can do a full paint transformation, visit our paint option page to see an example of a customers paint transformation from orange to grey that we did. More details about our paint and vehicle graphics can be found here, or contact us and we can discuss the options with you.

A lot of planning and preparation went into the move to reduce the down time of production in our manufacturing department. The move went smoothly and was completed earlier this month, all machines are in and we were back up and running with Zeros chassis and components back in full production few weeks ago, with the first Zero coming out the jig in our new Manufacturing department two weeks ago.

With all the team and production under one roof, we now have the room to grow and expand our business in the future. We are pleased to share with you below some behind the scenes photographs of our new manufacturing department and we will be sharing a full factory tour video with you very soon. We would also like to thank everyone who has helped and supported us during this move and enabling us to make it happen, its looking like 2023 is going to be another busy and exciting year for us all.

Earlier this year we announced that we are expanding with the doubling our current site here in Nottinghamshire with the purchase of premises and the adjoining site.
Since getting the keys just before Christmas we have all been extremely busy getting the new facilities ready. We are pleased to share with you an update and some behind the scenes photographs of how it is going as we are now very close to having all of our production under one roof. A lot of planning and preparation has gone into the move to reduce the down time of our production in our manufacturing department. This move has given us room to grow and expand our business and is allowing us to bring all elements of our production under one roof. We look forward to sharing with you more photographs and videos next month of the new department up and running.

Customers Zero Mazda Build progressing well....

We always like to hear from customers and see how their Zero Builds are going and we recently received some photographs and build update from GBS customer Marin Cordeaux and his wife Jane who collected their Zero Mazda Kit from us in October last year.

Martin said they ”Spent the first couple of weeks just getting familiar with the car and going over all the parts that we collected along with working through the wiring harness, brake pipes and fuel lines. We started with the differential and lifted that into place using the engine hoist which made the whole job a lot easier picking up on the locating point on the chassis. Once that was fitted we fitted the low pressure fuel pump and some of the associated hoses and fuel lines. We then moved onto the rear wishbones which then allowed us to fit the drive shafts and rear hubs. We located the prop shaft and made up a mounting bracket for the speedo pick up sensor.

So far so good, had a few technical questions which Matt from the GBS Workshop kindly resolved and we are progressing well to date”.

We look forward to following Martin and Janes Mazda Zero build and sharing their progress with you again later this year.

If you are near the completion of your Zero build and looking to get it IVA tested and registered then please see more details here about our IVA Service we offer for the Zeros and other sports cars.
