Zero Self Build Collections and Upgrades…..

Its been a busy start to the month for us with Zero self build kit collections, and the workshop has been busy too with lots of very nice spec Zero’s with us for various works.

On Saturday it was nice welcome Ben Whitrow and his family back to GBS, as they came to collect their Mazda Zero race self build. Ben and his family visited us earlier this year on Ben’s 14th Birthday to place their order and finalise the spec of Ben’s Zero Build which was his birthday present. Ben has the Mazda donor car already and is very excited to start his Zero Mazda Build, which he very much looks forward to driving in a few years when he is 17. We look forward to following Ben’s build and seeing it progress and sharing with you all.

Nice to have this customer’s Zero with us last week that he has recently bought and has been enjoying and wanted a few upgrades doing to it. It was with us for a few days for the ATR Product Front Brake Upgrade Kit fitting which is now a very popular upgrade for the Zero’s. Also new seats, gauges and more have been ordered for it so it will be coming back soon for more upgrades. We are pleased to also have several IVA appointments booked for this month, so we look forward to seeing more Zero’s on the road very soon.

Zero out on the track & something a little different in the workshop.....

It was nice to receive these action photographs ( Photogrpahy by @frozenspeed ) from Ivan and David who recently enjoyed their Zero Race on a track day at Spa, where they said there Zero Race performed really well. Ivan and David often join us on our GBS Track Days and we look forward to seeing them again very soon on the next GBS Track Days. The GBS Workshop is always busy and we often have a nice selection of Zeros in there, but this week we have something a little different in the GBS workshop. We have this Repco Brabham with us for engine, electrical and custom works, the owner also has a Zero and we look forward to completing the work on this Brabham then testing it out on the track. New Zero delivered & another waiting for first registration.....

This stunning factory built Zero is now all registered and ready to go. This week we are excited to be delivering it to the customer. This is a very nice spec Zero that is powered by the 2.5 Duratec engine and has many optional extras and upgrades fitted. We look forward to receiving photos from the new owner enjoying his new Zero and look forward to him joining us on GBS Track Days and at our Cars and Coffee events in the future. This very nice spec Zero also passed its IVA test last week and is just now waiting for the customer to come and visit and have there final fitting before it is all signed off. Then its just the registration that we are waiting for, which is going to be registered from September.

What engine and spec would you have in your Zero….

The Ford Zetec / Duratec and Mazda are the most popular engine option for the Zero’s. We have specific engine mounts on the shelf for a wide selection of engines and have the capabilities to work with you to create a special instillation for an engine of your choice for your Zero.

The Zero is unique among Seven Type cars in having its engine mounted further back in the chassis giving much better weight distribution and balance to the car.

Currently in the workshop we have two very nice new factory built Zero’s one powered by a Ford 2.5L Duratec and the other by a Ford 2L Zetec engine, both of stunning spec and fitted with many optional extras and upgrades. One is due to be delivered to the customer anytime and the other is awaiting its IVA test which is scheduled for next week.

Customers Zero is upgraded and transformed....

A few weeks ago GBS customer David Jacklin sent us some photographs of his Zero which he recently had professionally wrapped transforming it into a stunning car. It was also with us in the workshop a while ago where it had the new upgraded heated seats fitted that we now offer, along with the ATR Suspension and Carbon Fibre Trims.

GBS Customer Simon Britten also sent us some photographs of his Zero being enjoyed, that we prepared and presented to IVA last year. Yesterday we received a photograph from the Crossland Brothers who’s Zero is progressing nicely and is now on its wheels and we were pleased to hear that they started the engine for the very first time over the weekend. Their Zero is also now all booked in for our IVA Service and will be with us in the workshop soon for IVA preparations. Always great to see Father & Son's enjoying their Zero builds together.....

GBS Customers Mike and Dougie Spalding (father & son) Dropped their Zero Race car off with us earlier this week. Their Zero Race is going to be fitted with a 2L Eco Boost engine so its with us for all of the wiring and electrical set up to be done. Dougie had this Zero Race in July 2014 for his 14th Birthday and is now keen to get it completed and up and running to enjoy out on the track. This is their second Zero as Mike and Dougie built a road Zero which was completed in July 2012, which together they have enjoyed many track days and road trips including travelling around Europe. You may have also seen them in their Zero at many of our GBS Track Days and Cars & Coffee events.

Its also nice to see Jerry and Matt Haller who are another father and son building a Zero, their Zero build is progressing well with their Duratec engine recently being installed. Matt & Jerry’s Zero is painted in a stunning blue with a black stripe which you may have seen featured on our Blog when it first came back from paint. We look forward to receiving more photographs as their build progresses and seeing them out on the road enjoying it.

NEW GBS Workshop YouTube Channel & new products for the Zero's....

We have a main GBS YouTube channel which I am sure many of you have subscribed to and have watched our recent GBS Factory Tour video that we shared on there. We are now pleased to have a new dedicated YouTube Channel for the GBS Workshop, on here you will see a selection of videos sharing what the workshop team are up to, as well as videos of new product installations and upgrades on the Zero’s and other sports cars.

Including the below which we are pleased to have released and shared with you, these are just some of the new products that we have been busy developing for the Zero range and other sports cars.

Seat Belt Bolt Finishing Kit - These replace the standard hex head bolt which you have to cover up with a nut cover for the IVA Test. The new finishing kit uses a counter sunk 7/16 UNF bolt that has an aluminium cup with a radius that both comply’s with the IVA and also enhances the appearance of your car.
These are available in Black, Silver and Orange and now available online from Kit Spares.

Heated Seats - Heated Seat Elimiment optional extra now available on our GBS Seats. Visit our new GBS Workshop YouTube Channel to see a short video running through the installation, these new seats are now available and can be seen on our parts website Kit Spares.

We have also created a new Alternator Bracket for the Duratec 2.5 which is now being installed in all factory builds and is a very nice touch to the engine bay. GBS Zero looking good in USA & another on the way soon….

GBS customer Dan Kincade in the USA has his Zero on the road for a while now and has made some modifications and improvements to his Zero. We made him some custom 42mm tubes to give more performance for his new high spec Mazda engine, Dan will be taking it to the Dyno soon to see how it performs. Dan also purchased the new adjustable rear wishbones for the Mazda and has them all fitted and working now. Dan says  “Between the accelerator, rear arms and headers I feel that my car has been transformed to the next level. I look forward to continuing to up rate my Zero with more GBS / ATR components.”

We have another Zero that has recently been panelled that will soon be off to paint that is going to become one of our new Zero demonstrator cars in the USA. We are currently just deciding on the paint scheme for it, we will share more on that over the next few weeks with you.

We also have several Zero’s that have been with us for our IVA Service that we offer, and they are all now ready and waiting for the test dates to be confirmed. At this difficult time we are in, it’s been nice to see that a lot of you have been busy in the garage working on your Zero builds and doing upgrades and jobs to them. Nice Zero's currently being built & another arrived back from paint....

We are busy with several Zero factory build in progress…. We shared this newly painted green Zero with you last month and it’s progressing nicely the carpets are in, seats arrived and wheels are on, suspension fitted and the interior dash is now being fitted. It will soon be up and running and ready waiting to be presented to IVA, we will share more photographs once its on the floor and ready to go.

Another stunning Zero recently arrived back from our paint shop and we are pleased to share it with you all. This Zero has been painted in a stunning Audi R8 Orange, and will be powered by a 2L Zetec engine its now back in our workshop ready for the build to continue and to get it completed ready to present to IVA. There is a slight delay in IVA Tests due to the Coronavirus and we have had several tests that were booked cancelled that are now being rescheduled. Due to the Coronavirus (COVID 19) the GBS Factory is closed for visitors so we are unable to invite you to see us, but after getting a lot of enquiries we are pleased to share a video that we have created taking you on a full factory tour and behind the scenes of GBS including our manufacturing site which not many of you have seen before. The video is over 40 minutes and the sections it covers are - Introduction GBS / Kit Spares, Show Room, Main Stores, Bodywork, Manufacturing, Engineering, Clean & Assembly Room, Design Room, Workshop & Test Drive in our demonstrators. Our NEW Gen 2 Zero Demonstrator featured in this months CKC Magazine….

We always look forward to receiving our copy of CKC Magazine and it was nice to see that our new Zero demonstrator was featured in the magazine and on the front cover too. Adam from CKC Magazine visited us last month to view and test drive our new Zero demonstrator. Adam was very impressed “ It may not look that different to any GBS Zero that’s gone before, but the new Gen 2 has been through a thorough process of evolution” We are lucky to have a wide open A- Road close to the factory with well sighted corners so we can drive with confidence, so Adam was able to enjoy his test drive and put the demonstrator through its paces to see how it handled. Our new demonstrator is a very nice high spec car and has a lot of optional extras and upgrades on it. “There are thousands of changes – not that you would know just by looking” you can see and read more in the magazine which is out now and available to purchase online delivered directly to your door.

In our last Blog post we gave you the chance to have a go at colouring in a Zero and add a creative background. It was great to see that many children have been enjoying colouring the Zero…. Another Zero back from paint, and a chance to colour yours…….

The GBS Workshop has been busy recently and had some very nice spec Zero’s waiting to go to paint and we have one very nice Zero that recently arrived back from paint that we are pleased to share with you. This stunning green Zero arrived back at the factory and now the build continues to get it finished. It is bright green with black stripes and nose cone band and the headlight bowls are painted to match, this Zero will be powered by a 2.5 Duratec engine on ATR Products throttle bodies. We all love it and can’t wait to see it finished now, we will share more photos as the build progresses on our Instagram where you can also see a video of it…

More Zero’s soon to be on the road in the UK & USA….

The GBS Workshop is always busy, and we often have several Zero’s with us for the IVA Service that we offer. We recently prepared and presented to IVA a Ford based Zero built by GBS Customer Tom Pearce, who collected his Zero Self Build kit from us 8 years ago from the GBS factory in 2012. Tom’s Zero is now back with him and just awaiting for the registration to come through before he can get the number plates and get it on the road to enjoy some miles. Tom Said “I also want to say what a pleasure it has been to deal with Gbs over the last 8 years, all the staff have been friendly and helpful, so many thanks to Richard, Keith and Yourself for all your have done to help me get my car on the road.  Please can you pass on my appreciation to Matt and the team for the outstanding job they have done finishing off my car, I couldn’t stop smiling when I saw it Tuesday evening.” 

We hope Tom can join us next month in his Zero for our first GBS Cars and Coffee event of the year, which looks like we are going to be joined by lots of other Zero owners as well as many other sports cars. Over in the USA its great to see that another customer’s Zero build is now also not to far of completion. GBS Customer Michael Etzel in USA visited us at the factory last summer where he enjoyed a factory tour and test drive in our Mazda demonstrator with Richard. Mike emailed last week with some photos and to say thank you to Richard for his help with the Emerald mapping at his tuners, which was a successful day and the car runs strong.
Mike said “ Strapped to the Dyno for today’s testing. The Emerald needed lots of mapping to work correctly. By days end it is running very strongly. I rebuilt a 200k mileage 1991 1.6L Miata to stock specs then installed the ATR throttle bodies. We pulled 116.5 hp @ 7000 at the wheels today. It will get me around town just fine. We need a couple more hours to verify the mapping and remove all the test equipment, button it up and were done. Very glad to be at the final stage of the build. Now to inspection, assign the vin and get it registered. A special thank you to Richard for his time talking to my tuner so we did the job correctly”.

Something a little different to a Zero, that we prepared & presented to IVA…

…..Please note that the GBS Factory and Kit Spares Shop will be closed on Friday 15th November, but will be open 10am-2pm on Saturday 16th November……

We offer many workshop services and one of them being the IVA Service which is a very popular service and we often have several Zero’s and other sports cars that are in the workshop for this service. Recently we had this electric Model T vehicle that is a replicas of the famous 1910 Model T Ford in the workshop, it has been with us for several months as there was a lot of work involved including a lot of fabrication, electrical and more to prepare it to the IVA standard. We were pleased that it has now passed and is fully registered and was collected last week by the owner. Before it went we went on a short road test and took a few photos to share with you all. Its being used for tours in the city of Cambridge.
We now have a full workshop again with several Zero’s being prepared and panelled for paint, as well as several nice spec Zero factory builds in progress. We are also pleased to welcome a new member of the team to GBS who will be based in the workshop, David has a strong background in Motorsport, engineering and like all the GBS team a strong passion for all Motorsport.

Busy Workshop & another GBS Zero on the way to a Customer in USA…

A very nice spec Zero self build kit is now on the way to another customer in the USA after recently being collected from the factory. This wooden crate is packed full of some very nice parts and lots of upgrade parts including the new ATR Front Brake upgrade which will all arrive in the USA beginning of December.

Another Zero Race kit is now being packed and prepared that will also be going to the USA before Christmas along with all our UK and other European self build Kit collections that are scheduled in for the next couple of weeks, we are very busy and the Zero kit dispatch area is looking very busy with many Zero chassis’s stacking up.

Nice to have customers Zero back in the GBS Workshop from Norway…..

It was nice to have this GBS Zero back in our workshop last week. GBS customer Peer Moberg from Norway collected his full Zero self build kit from the factory earlier this year in January and has been busy building it since he collected it. Peer returned with his nearly completed 2.5 Duratec powered Zero build last week for us to do some of the final fittings and engine set up.

Peers was with us for just over 4 days and all the GBS team worked together to complete the build and set up including some late nights.  The high spec Zero looked stunning once all completed and Peers enjoyed a road test with Richard once the engine was all set up.

This stunning Zero is a 230 Calibre Spec that features - LHD Standard Sport Chassis, 2.5ltr Ford Duratec engine, with ATR Throttle Bodies, Life ECU, Painted with Stripes, Carbon Fibre Bodywork Pack, Rear Diffuser, Momo Steering Wheel and Quick Release Boss, Heated windscreen, ATR Suspension and ATR Brakes.

The Zero range is available in both right and left hand drive due to its symmetrical design and has already been sold and registered into France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Portugal, Greece, Siberia, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, America and Southern Ireland. Father and Son to enjoy the Zero Build project together....

GBS Customers Jerry & Matt Haller (Father & Son) visited our stand at the Autosports Show earlier this year in January at the NEC in Birmingham where they first saw the Zero’s on display on our stand. They then came to see us at the factory and enjoyed a factory tour, meeting all the team, seeing all the behind the scenes of what we do….. They went away with plenty of ideas and options, as well as both enjoying a test drive in our demonstrator. A few weeks later we got a email to say they have decided on their Zero spec and were ready to place their order, so they came up to the factory on a Saturday and confirmed the spec and options of their kit and payed the deposit. Then last week their stunning painted Zero arrived back at the factory and we had the opportunity to take a few photographs of it before it was delivered to them the next day. 

This is going to be a project for a Father and Son who are going to enjoy together, we look forward to following their build and seeing it progress and sharing photos with you all.

We have lots of Zero self build kits currently being prepared for collection over the few weeks as well as some that are soon to be exported. We are also expecting our new demonstrator to arrive back from the paint shop later this week, so keep a look out on our social media to see more about that!
