A_cba1f661-a471-4433-87a6-faad6a8e83ba.jpg

Earlier this week our Zero Mazda demonstrator was busy being prepared for a track day. The GBS Team enjoyed an evening at Cadwell Park with the Zero, its been a busy few months for all the team and it was nice to have an afternoon / evening all together enjoying the Zero and other cars out on the track.

We had two GBS track days booked earlier this year at Blyton Park and Donington Park but due to Covid-19 they were both cancelled. Its great that the circuits are now re open and hopefully spectators will be allowed back soon. We look forward to being back out on the track with you all in your Zero’s hopefully later this year. Keep a look out on our events page and social media which is all updated regularly.

Zero’s out on the Race Track at Blyton Park for private event…..

If you follow us on Instagram ( @gbs_cars ) you may have seen a few behind the scenes photographs of several Zero’s at Blyton Park earlier this month…. We organised a corporate day and hired the Blyton Park race circuit for exclusive use for the Zero’s. This was in conjunction with TheCarCrowd who are building the UK’s first crowd funding platform for classic cars, see more details about TheCarCrowd here. This was the launch event for TheCarCrowd and it’s was also the release of our new Zero demonstrator that people could experience on the day. TheCarCrowd guests enjoyed passenger laps with the GBS team in our new Zero demonstrator and Zero Race car then they were given the opportunity to drive themselves in our Zero Mazda demonstrator.
We were also joined by many guests throughout the day including Sam Pinkham who is the early breakfast presenter for Virgin Radio UK, our local MP Mark Spencer who all enjoyed their experience out on the track in the Zero’s. At the end of the day we had a drag race between Electric v Petrol….. Which do you think would WIN a drag race between a Tesla Model S and our GBS Zero? We will share the results and video with you all soon!

It was a great day, enjoyed by all and we look forward to hosting more days like this in the future. We would also like to thank Aireshelta Products for providing the tent shelter for the day and Delilah Fine Foods in Nottingham for providing the food for us all to enjoy.

GBS Track Day update: We currently have two GBS Track Days booked, at Blyton Park on Saturday 18th April and at Donignton Park on Friday 15th May. The EV Zero was recently on display at another event….

A_20200108_171042.jpg
A_20200108_171128.jpg

Earlier this month our Electric Zero was on display at the MIA Energy-Efficient Motorsport Conference (EEMS) #EEMS2020 in association with AVL RACING which was at the NEC in Birmingham. Our Niche Vehicle Network Zero EV was seen on the Rockfort Engineering stand alongside their other project car the race winning Mahindra Formula E car.

The Electric Zero chassis is bespoke to allow for the concept EV powertrain. In the front of the vehicle the battery has replaced the standard engine as the energy source and the original fuel cell is replaced with the powertrain. GBS have machined intricate prototype parts to allow the E drive system to be mounted as a compact unit within in the vehicle.
The powered electronics have been developed in partnership with Rockfort Engineering who are heavily involved with Formula E. The project was to develop a novel cooling concept and the project vehicle will be used to create duty cycles to further develop this technology. The vehicle has a limited range as it was designed for high load discharge to generate heat and monitor the cooling data.

This electric Zero as always attracted a lot attention throughout the event and will be back at the factory soon and we hope to have it here for you all to see at our next GBS Cars & Coffee event which is happening on Saturday 21st March at the GSB Factory. Visit our events page for more details on the events the Zero can be seen at throughout 2020.

It’s a busy start to the year at the GBS Factory as we were straight into preparing for the first event on the GBS Calendar which was the Autosports International Show at the NEC in Birmingham which started on Thursday 9th until 12th January. it was nice to see so many customers over the weekend as well as meet many new customers that we look forward to welcoming to the GBS Factory over the next few weeks. We had a different stand location this year and were based in Hall 3, where we had two very nice spec Zero’s on display.

We had our new high spec Gen 2 Zero demonstrator on display, which many of you may have already seen as this Zero made its first appearance at Goodwood Revival last year. Along with our demonstrator was a very nice spec Zero that you have not seen before. This factory built Zero had only passed its IVA Test last week that GBS Customer Robin Copley kindly let us have on display for the show. Robin and his wife Hazel visited the show and spent some time with us all on the stand on Saturday admiring their new Zero, that is just now waiting to be registered and then collection will be confirmed for later this month.  Robin and Hazel have several road trips planned already for the year including a camping trip and road trip to France as well as looking forward to enjoying it out on the track too.

We are pleased to say that both Zero’s attracted a lot of attention over the 4 days and we have lots of factory visits and test drives booked already. Its already been a very busy and successful start to 2020 for us and the next few months are looking like they will continue to be that. Below are a few photographs from the weekend and if you follow us on Instagram you can see a lot more from our time at this years Autosport International Show including some videos on there. Rolls-Royce Motor Club visit GBS for a Factory Tour….

Watch video
A_e1c8e069-df6b-4cb4-a660-c982598e51c0.jpg

We get a lot of enquires for Factory Tours for owners clubs and sports car clubs all over the country, earlier this year we were approached by Henry a GBS Customer who has a Zero Race to ask if we would do a factory tour for  a club he is a club secretary for which is the Rolls Royce Motor Club.

We offer a few Factory Tour dates throughout the year including weekends and evenings and on Saturday we were pleased to welcome 25 members from the Rolls-Royce Motor Club to the GBS factory for a  tour of our facilities with Richard and the GBS team. During their tour they saw a lot of behind the scenes of how our bespoke sports cars and products are produced. Thomas was in our Machine Shop demonstrating what he does on the CNC machines and how parts are designed and manufactured. Two members of the club have built a Zero sports car and it was great to see that one of them arrived in his Zero, despite the heavy rain on the day!

Feed back from the tour was very positive and enjoyed by all, one member emailed to say
GBS is an amazing company. Their engineering exceeded by far my expectations. They can potentially redefine the kit-car and definitely set new standards for the "sevens". Their parts are retrofitted in other "sevens".
It is one of the those stories "if what is available on the market is not good enough, DIY" And all these with very competitive prices. – Anestis G, Rolls-Royce employees Motor Club

The morning generally starts with tea/coffee and biscuits in the GBS Show room then onto the GBS Workshop, Design & Development Room, Machine & Engineering, Clean Room, Kit Spares Store and then back into the showroom for more refreshments, questions and often a test drive in one of our Zero demonstrators.
Our GBS Factory Tours are free but we ask for a kind donation to be made to our chosen charities which are Cancer Research UK and Notts & Lincs Air Ambulance.

We hope that the Rolls Royce Motor Club all enjoyed their visit to GBS and we would like to say thank you for your kind donations that you made on the day. Click here to see a short video that we created of when the Rolls Royce Motor Club members visited us.

For more details on our factory tours that we offer and to look to book one please click here or contact us.

Our next event at the GBS Factory is our Christmas Cars & Coffee event which is happening on Saturday 7th December. You can find more details about this on our events page.

GBS Zero's on display and out on the track in America...

Last weekend (11th – 13th October) the Zero’s were at Laguna Seca raceway home of the famous “Corkscrew” complex of corners for the Miatas Reunion at Laguna Seca 2019.

We had several Mazda based customer GBS Zero’s on display and were located on the pit road at the legendary race venue and around town during the weekend. Richard and Anthony were there along with Paul Barnes who is our USA representative.

Miatas at Laguna Seca is an annual event for all things Miata with hundreds of cars attending each year.  The event combines hard-core track time with more laid back, friendly gatherings. Given our GBS Zero takes the proven Miata performance to a whole new level we felt it a fitting venue to showcase the Zero to Miata enthusiasts from around north America.

Now in its 10th year at Laguna Seca, the Miata Reunion is an annual celebration of the MX-5 Miata, offering quality track time at an iconic venue for hard-core track enthusiasts, as well as a full plate of off-track activities and social interaction for Miata lovers. It’s the last year the event will be held at Laguna Seca, next years event location is yet to be published.

The GBS Zero is very popular in the USA with several Zero’s now on the road and many that are currently being built as well as several more kits that we are currently preparing to export later this year. On the way to the Laguna Seca, Richard, Anthony and Paul called in to see Frank a GBS Customer in LA who has very nearly completed his build. His 1.8 Miata based Zero is now road registered and he is just making the finishing touches to it before wrapping the car in his chosen colour scheme, he is yet to let on what this is.

Once the Miata’s Reunion had come to an end we took the Zero down a 130 mile section of the famous Pacific Highway 1 from Monterey to San Luis Obispo. This is the first time a Zero has been down this iconic cliff hugging coastal road  often referred to as the PCH.

It was great to meet so many USA Customers and hear how their builds are going and to meet many new customers some of who are taking delivery of their Zero kits later this year, we would like to thank Paul for all is help in arranging the event and making it happen for us and also GBS Customers Dan and Marlin for joining us and having their Zero’s on display over the weekend.

Here are some photographs from the trip and more can be seen on our GBS Instagram page @gbs_cars.
