SuperSpec Features
Chassis
Although similar in style and dimensions to the Robin Hood's best seller the Project 2B, every single tube and bracket has been changed in the Super Spec. Additional side diagonal bars and circumferential engine bay tubes beef up the chassis for the engines increased power.

The floor has been recessed so that all the adjustments can be utilised on the luxurious Recaro seats. The roll over bar has been changed and is more aesthetically pleasing. It has been made wider to accommodate a larger fuel tank essential for those touring holidays. Also the side screens can now be stored behind the seats when not in use.

All Super Spec chassis are made from stainless steel, predominantly 38mm o/d with a 2mm wall thickness, the roll over bar is 50mm o/d and is back braced, it is an important and integral part of the chassis. All the tube joints are internally sleeved for extra strength, the Super Spec chassis offers terrific torsional rigidity, unparallel crash protection and a spacious cockpit.

There was a fair bit of builder rivalry for the 'first on the road title'. The title was taken by Mr and Mrs Aitchison in Scotland. However above is the first photo we have been sent of Mr D Mann's excellent Super Spec
The Suspension
This is a true four wheel independent system. No one has had more affairs with suspension than Robin Hood and now without the financial restraints of having to produce a system to a fixed price and with a working lifetime of experience the Super Spec has the best suspension system yet.

The front double wishbones are Nylaspa bushed and are of a strong, simple and pleasant design. The lower arms have multi hole provision for shock absorber fitting, adjustable camber is achieved by screwing out or in the top ball joint and although the caster is fixed at the factory, further adjustment is possible. All four front wishbones are supplied gold zinc plated, these may be clear lacquered or painted by the builder a colour of your choice. Zeemergas coil over dampers with an adjustable seat are supplied.

Bodywork
At the risk of being labelled unadventurous or a copier, Robin Hood has decided to take the safest and surest path when deciding on the bodywork style. We have gone back to the original concept of the panelwork on this car - cycle front wings, conventional detachable louvred bonnet and one piece rear wings, no bulges no air scoops, nothing fancy just pure tradition.

The panel work is all mirror like stainless steel and the GRP is available in the standard Signal Red, British Racing Green, Midnight Blue or Speed Yellow. Accident damage is easily rectified with all panels being easily detachable, readily available and at a fraction of the cost of production car parts.

The floor, tunnel and foot well panels are welded in during manufacture. The scuttle (which is separate from the bonnet) on the Super Spec is easily detachable so that work can be carried out to the instrument area and around the pedals, wipers etc. The detachable bonnet is a new design with seven blocks of seven louvres to give ample engine cooling. New type SVA compatible bonnet catches are fitted.

Interior
Again using current production sports cars as a yardstick, our new Super Spec is equally roomy and comfortable, the sports seats made by Recaro supplied as standard in very dark grey or a few are available also in grey with discreet blue, red, green jazzy panels. These seats are adjustable, forward and backward with an adjustable back rake and thigh support, the drivers seat is also adjustable up and down, head and neck protection is available from the detachable head rests, these high quality seats are complimented by four point Sabelt safety harnesses firmly fixed to the roll over bar's cross bar directly behind your head.

The carpet is high quality, very dark grey or sable. Enough is supplied to trim the whole cockpit and rear luggage compartment. As previously stated the steering column is fully adjustable and has 1½" up and down and 2" in and out movement with most of the controls on the two column switches. The well illuminated instruments are centrally mounted and directed towards the driver so are easily visible.

A choice of steering wheels are available with the 11" aluminium leather bound Mountney wheel probably being the most popular. We feel that there is ample legroom for all but very tall drivers with there being 43" from the seat back to the inactivated pedals. For those unlucky, very tall drivers, a lesser seat with not so much padding would give a lot more leg room, the pendulum pedals are well spaced with there being 12" width in the pedal area.

There is ample luggage space behind the Recaro seats, this is accessible either from behind the seats or directly from the back of the car. A lockable lid between the roll over bar stays can accommodate a luggage rack for extra luggage. We hope you like the rear trim which is carbon fibre. The rear bumper/spare wheel carrier is a substantial part of the chassis and can be used as a tow bar for a camping trailer if required.

Weather Gear
This is included in the price of the Super Spec kit and consists of a hood, a pair of side screens a set of stainless steel lift off hinges a fixing kit and a two piece hood frame. This is made from high quality black vinyl and has the three rear Vyback windows and the seams of the hood and side screens all welded. There is also an extensive use of Velcro in the design.

We would be very quick to point out, that the fitting of the hood takes time and patience and whilst our hood and sidescreens are as good, if not better than our competitor's equivalent, they cannot match the soft tops of today's production cars. Whilst you will be very glad of the hood when it rains it is not totally leak proof.

The side screens lift off easily and can be stored behind the seats when not required. An exciting coloured range of Everflex hoods and sidescreens are available as an optional extra.

Wheels & Tyres
Wheel fashion has changed dramatically over the years, today's choice is definitely alloy wheels, the bigger diameter the better. However lets be sensible, the bigger the wheel and tyre the more weight it adds to the car and more stress is put upon the suspension and ultra low profile tyres give little comfort, so Robin Hood Sports Cars have chosen a 15" x 6.5" wheel with a 50 profile tyre. Again the wheel style had to be crisp and clean, not outlandish, so as to suit everybody. We hope you like our choice of five spoke diamond cut machined and lacquered wheels just look at the quality, not a blow hole in sight in the exposed lacquered aluminium you will note that they carry the important 'CU' mark of the wheel industries quality control house and whilst they cannot be as light as magnesium wheels, they weigh 7.5kgs against the average weight of 10kgs for a 15" alloy wheel.

When it comes to tyres, Robin Hood decided to use only the very best, the obvious choice was the new Yokohama A539. These are unidirectional which is an important consideration when five wheels are supplied. They have cost us twice as much as the tyres we intended. Give the cat another goldfish!

Fuel Tank
A large capacity production car fuel tank with pump and sender is supplied.

Safety
In the same way that some kit cars represent poor value compared with mainstream car manufacturers prices, kit car producers also struggle to compete with mainstream car manufacturers safety features. Air bags, ABS brakes, etc have not yet arrived on the kit scene and the authorities have thrown in a red herring in the way of the Single Vehicle Approval (SVA) test as a flimsy structure and the lack of protection in the event of a crash of some kit cars are not covered by the SVA regulations.

Hand in hand with corrosion, chassis strength has been paramount in the design brief of the new Super Spec. You do not have to be a chassis designer or structural engineer to see the obvious protection the Robin Hood chassis offers. Kit car shows are an excellent arena to look at and compare the various different chassis available. The Robin Hood's Sub K chassis for example, whilst being part of the most inexpensive kit was probably the best. Everything that Robin Hood have ever learnt has gone into the design of the Super Spec: Back braced roll over bars, crumple zone designed chassis, sleeved joints, cornerless corners, circular tub strength, side impact and compression gap protection (due to the generous interior space in the event of an accident there is room for the chassis to be distorted and not crush in the occupants).

The Super Spec uses stainless steel for the body panels, which is double skinned in the floor area to give added protection from piercing by sharp objects. The steering column originates from a current production car and besides being fully adjustable up and down, in and out, it also comprises of three universal joints and a sliding shaft, making steering column injuries almost impossible, in the event of a serious accident the engine is designed to be held firmly in position as it is housed in a circumferential frame, the steering rack is well protected by front chassis nose members.

The safety glass windscreen is of a generous proportion (about 50% larger than some of our competitors) and besides giving better safety protection obviously gives you better wind protection. Sabelt four point safety harnesses are supplied giving you and your passenger the type of protection trusted by competition drivers.
